Enjoy chrysanthemum displays across the garden, plus guided tours and traditional performances
An annual chrysanthemum festival held at Sengan-en, a scenic former Kagoshima residence of the Shimazu clan. Chrysanthemums are displayed throughout the garden grounds, coloring the autumn scenery. Related events include guided highlights tours (Nov 8 and 23) and a traditional performing arts program with taiko drums, shamisen and gagaku (Nov 14), plus a lion dance (Nov 15). Now in its 67th year, the festival's displays and schedule may change depending on weather and the chrysanthemums' condition. No separate fee is charged; it is included in regular garden admission.
