Carefully tended chrysanthemums lining the shrine approach
Held along the approach within the precincts of Shiogama Shrine and Shiwahiko Shrine, the Shiogama Chrysanthemum Festival and Central Miyagi Chrysanthemum Exhibition is an autumn tradition organized mainly by the local Shiogama Chrysanthemum Association, with a history spanning more than 70 editions. Large chrysanthemum blooms and cascade-style arrangements carefully grown by enthusiasts line the shrine approach, adding color to the grounds. The 2025 edition ran from Wednesday, October 29 through Wednesday, November 12. A long-cherished local flower festival, it draws many worshippers and visitors each year, and is treated as estimated until the official 2026 announcement is made.
