Venue: Taketa Castle Town District (Shimomoto-cho Street and others)
Feb 13 – Mar 8, 2026
A historic hinamatsuri in the former castle town of the Oka Domain in Taketa, Oita. During the Edo period, the Oka Domain had a tradition of sending 'hiina' (dolls made from bamboo and paper) as seasonal gifts, and this festival carries on that heritage. Bamboo dolls, traditional hina dolls, and creative handmade figures are displayed along the streets of samurai residences and merchant houses. Visitors can stroll through the historic townscape of Taketa, also known for Oka Castle ruins that inspired Rentaro Taki's famous song 'Moon over the Ruined Castle,' while enjoying the distinctive hina displays.
