Venue: Kotobukimaru Yashiki
Feb 7 – Apr 5, 2026
Kotobukimaru Yashiki, the former estate of the wealthy Watanabe merchant family who dealt in paper and sundry goods, features a distinctive Meiji-era earthen-walled storehouse and a Taisho-period (1923) Japanese-Western hybrid main building. During the Hinamatsuri season, it hosts Miyagi Prefecture's largest display — an 8-meter-wide arrangement featuring seven sets of Showa-era seven-tier hina dolls in magnificent splendor. A popular package combines kimono rental with a matcha tea experience (2,000 yen), allowing visitors to take photos in traditional dress before the stunning display. Admission is free, and nearby Shiroishi Castle makes for a perfect combined sightseeing itinerary.
