Chuo-ku, Niigata

Venue: Former Saito Family Villa (Nationally Designated Scenic Spot)

A hinamatsuri at the nationally designated Former Saito Family Villa in Chuo-ku, Niigata. The Saito family were among Niigata's foremost wealthy merchants, and their villa built during the Taisho era features a circuit-style garden and open modern Japanese architecture. The exhibition displays precious hina dolls from prominent local families, including early Showa-period dolls from the Suzuki family, who operated the 'Maseya' shipping agency in Niigata during the Edo period.
