Okage Yokocho Hinamatsuri

A hinamatsuri at Okage Yokocho, the charming shopping district in front of the Inner Shrine of Ise Grand Shrine in Ise, Mie. Hina dolls from old families across and beyond the prefecture, spanning the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras, are displayed in shops throughout the district. Visitors can appreciate how dolls' faces, costumes, and decorations evolved across periods. Popular activities include a stamp-collecting event that creates an original postcard, and a workshop using Ise katagami (stencil dyeing) to make tapestries (1,870 yen). On March 3, amazake (sweet sake) is served and special hinamatsuri cuisine is offered.
