The Kakunodate Hina Doll Exhibition is held from winter through spring in Kakunodate, known as the 'Little Kyoto of Michinoku,' in Semboku City, Akita. Precious hina dolls dating back to the Edo period are displayed at various locations, including the main venue of Kakunodate Kabazaiku Denshokan, set against the backdrop of historic samurai residences. Kakunodate flourished as a castle town of the Satake-kita clan, and many elegant hina displays influenced by Kyoto culture have been preserved here. Viewing hina dolls within the dignified spaces of samurai residences offers a truly special experience, enhanced by the serene winter atmosphere of the town.
