Katsuura Big Hina Matsuri

Katsuura, Chiba

Venue: Tomisaki Shrine, Katsuura Arts & Culture Center Küste, Kakuo-ji Temple Gate, and other venues throughout Katsuura

Feb 21 – Mar 3, 2026

One of Japan's largest Hinamatsuri events, with approximately 25,000 hina dolls adorning the entire town. The main attraction is the sight of roughly 1,800 dolls arranged each morning on the 60 stone steps of Tomisaki Shrine, which transforms into an enchanting scene during the evening illumination from around 5 PM (panels displayed on rainy days). The main indoor venue Küste offers large-scale exhibitions, while Kakuo-ji Temple gate and Sumina intersection feature additional displays throughout the city. This quintessential early-spring event in Chiba blends the warm hospitality of the fishing town of Katsuura with an overwhelming scale of hina decorations.
