Tahara City Museum: Hina Dolls and First Kite Exhibition
Tahara, Aichi
Venue: Tahara City Museum
Feb 14 – Apr 5, 2026
The Tahara City Museum's Hina Dolls and First Kite Exhibition is a special exhibition at a museum built on the ruins of Tahara Castle in Tahara, Aichi. This uniquely Atsumi Peninsula exhibition pairs hina dolls from local historic families with hatsudako (first kites) made to celebrate children's growth. Hatsudako are a traditional Atsumi Peninsula custom of flying kites for a boy's first New Year, and the contrast between the bold warrior-painted kites and elegant hina dolls is a highlight. The green surroundings of the Tahara Castle ruins provide a lovely setting to experience local traditional culture.
