Venue: Hokyoji Temple (Temple of Dolls / Dodo Gosho)
Mar 1 – Apr 3, 2026
Hokyoji Temple is a Rinzai Zen convent known as the 'Temple of Dolls.' It houses numerous precious hina dolls and Kyoto dolls gifted by successive imperial families, including Emperor Kokaku. The Spring Doll Exhibition offers special public viewing of these treasures. On opening day, March 1, a Shimabara Tayu (courtesan) performs a ceremonial dance. This is a rare opportunity to view hina dolls hundreds of years old up close in the serene atmosphere of this distinguished temple also known as 'Dodo Gosho.'
