Now in its 41st year, the Edo Nagashi-bina is a traditional ceremony along the Sumida River where participants write their names and wishes on paper hina dolls and set them adrift on the water. The first 700 applicants who register in advance receive a specially made nagashi-bina for free, while same-day participants can purchase one at the venue for about 1,000 yen. This event preserves the ancient custom of warding off evil and praying for healthy growth, offering a special moment to welcome spring while releasing dolls into the river amid the charming scenery of Asakusa. Open to everyone, it is popular among international tourists as well.
