Hino Hinamatsuri Journey is held in the Omi-Hino merchant townscape of Hino, Shiga. Its distinctive feature is viewing hina dolls and creative dolls from outside through 'sajiki-mado' (balcony lattice windows), a local architectural tradition. Over 150 homes and shops along the old highway display hina decorations. The Omi-Hino Merchant Museum exhibits about 50 sets of period hina dolls, including precious pieces brought from Kyoto by wealthy Edo-period merchants. It's a leisurely strolling hinamatsuri in a town alive with the history and culture of the Omi merchants.
