Now in its 32nd year, the Tsuruoka Hina Monogatari exhibition at Chido Museum showcases the elegant hina doll heritage of the Sakai clan, lords of the Shonai domain. The collection includes dolls brought from Edo through the sankin-kotai system and from Kyoto via kitamae-bune trading ships, as well as dolls that princesses of the Tokugawa and Hosokawa families brought as part of their wedding trousseaux. The exquisitely crafted miniature furnishings accompanying the dolls demonstrate the pinnacle of Edo-period craftsmanship. Special programs such as 'Ohina-sama feast experiences' allow visitors to taste traditional Hinamatsuri cuisine. This is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the refined culture and history of the Shonai domain.
