Shimazu clan hina and Satsuma Kiriko glass
The Satsuma Hinamatsuri is a prestigious hinamatsuri held at Sengan-en, the Shimazu clan's villa that is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Shoko Shuseikan Annex presents 'Things Loved by Princesses,' a special exhibition of 407 precious hina items (99 types) passed down through the Shimazu family. The Iso Kogei-kan displays beautiful hina dolls crafted in the traditional art of Satsuma Kiriko cut glass. Special programs include Satsuma thread-doll making workshops and curator-guided hina appreciation lunches. About 150 cherry trees bloom progressively throughout the garden, making it perfect for combining hanami with hinamatsuri.
