HIGHLIGHTS

Noble dolls from Tokugawa princesses

About This Event

This 39th annual special exhibition at the Tokugawa Art Museum displays hina dolls and exquisitely crafted miniature furnishings from the Owari branch of the Tokugawa family. The yusoku-bina (court-style dolls) owned by Edo-period princesses and the miniature bridal trousseau pieces showcase the refined taste and supreme craftsmanship unique to a daimyo family. Magnificent multi-tier displays featuring dolls from three generations of Owari Tokugawa wives spanning the Meiji through Showa eras are equally impressive. The museum, housing one of Japan's premier daimyo cultural collections including swords and armor, is ideal for those seeking deep appreciation of Japanese culture.
