Original Big Hina — 30,000 dolls!
The ORIGINAL Big Hina Matsuri since 1989, this is one of Japan's largest hina festivals, displaying approximately 30,000 dolls sent from across the country. At the center of the venue rises a massive 100-step, 7-meter-tall pyramid of hina dolls, surrounded by 300 additional tiers packed with dolls — an overwhelming spectacle. The festival also features a 'Hina Market' selling local specialties, Awa puppet theater performances, and Awa Odori dance demonstrations unique to Tokushima. This is the historic event that inspired Big Hina Matsuri celebrations throughout Japan.
