Free nanakusa rice porridge offered in the shrine grounds after the rite
At Namiyoke Shrine in Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, a nanakusa rite marking the Jinjitsu festival is held every January 7. The rite prays for good health through the year, and free rice porridge is offered in the shrine grounds afterward, first-come first-served for roughly 100 people per the shrine's annual events page. Namiyoke Shrine is said to have been founded in the Manji era of the Edo period and is known as a guardian of land reclamation work, beloved by workers around the former Tsukiji market and local residents alike.
