Chrysanthemums and hina dolls displayed through a preserved historic townscape
In the Edo period, households across the Kansai region would set out their hina dolls a second time around the Choyo festival — a custom known as nochi no hina. Displayed together with chrysanthemums, it was also called kiku-bina, and where the spring doll festival prays for children's growth, this autumn observance wished long life for families and couples. Tondabayashi Jinaimachi has revived the fading custom as a community event. The setting is a nationally designated Important Preservation District of Historic Buildings, where chrysanthemums and hina dolls fill white-walled merchant houses and the grounds of Koshoji Betsuin. Some venues display dolls from early to mid-October, with a main walking event held on a Saturday during the period. The district lies right by Kintetsu Tondabayashi Station.
