Kasuisai Temple, Zuiryukaku Hall
Fukuroi, ShizuokaChubu
32-tier display, 3,000 dolls — Japan's largest
Kasuisai Temple, one of the Enshu Sanzan (Three Great Temples of Enshu) and a venerable Soto Zen temple, houses Japan's largest-class hina display — 1,200 dolls arranged on 32 tiers in the Zuiryukaku Hall, a registered cultural property. The overwhelming scale of the display reaching toward the ceiling leaves visitors in awe. Approximately 3,000 dolls are displayed throughout the temple grounds, with additional displays on the steps before the main gate. An indoor peony garden opens concurrently, offering the dual pleasure of flowers and dolls. Running from New Year's Day through late March, this is an event worth revisiting throughout the season.
