80 venues in beautifully preserved streets
In the Hida region where spring arrives late, Hinamatsuri follows the lunar calendar and continues until April 3, with approximately 80 ryokans, shops, and old family homes displaying hina dolls from the Edo era through modern times. Now in its 25th year, the event invites visitors to stroll through Takayama's beautifully preserved 'Old Town' streets while admiring treasured dolls including clay dolls (tsuchi-bina), Kyoho-bina, and Meiji-era pieces handed down through generations. Hand-carved 'ittobori' hina dolls by Hida craftsmen are another highlight. Combined with local cuisine like Takayama ramen and Hida beef, this is the perfect event for spring sightseeing in Takayama.
