A reservation-based community seminar tasting nanakusa-gayu
Kogo Community Center in Niihama, Ehime holds this annual seminar in January. Nanakusa herbs are said to ward off evil by sprouting early in spring, and eating nanakusa-gayu porridge is said to have begun as a prayer for good health. Aiming to pass down old traditions to children, it is held in two sessions in the study room and library, free of charge. Capacity is 80 across both sessions, filled on a first-come basis, so advance reservation is required. Apply or inquire at Kogo Community Center (tel. 46-1181).
