Illuminated large, vivid paper streamers
The Hachinohe Tanabata Festival is held in mid-to-late July along the central shopping district of Mikkamachi, Jusankamachi, and Yagura Yokocho. Large, vivid streamers and decorations made by local businesses and groups brighten the streets, and at night they are illuminated, creating a dreamlike setting perfect for a yukata stroll. Flowing dances, street live music, and hands-on booths for children fill the program, drawing families and young people alike. With more than 70 years of history, it is a signature festival heralding the start of summer in Hachinohe.
