Handmade decorations filling the 365-meter arcade

About This Event

The Morioka Tanabata Festival is a community-rooted celebration held in early August along the Sakanacho shopping arcade. Colorful handmade Tanabata decorations crafted by the arcade's shops and local residents hang densely along the roughly 365-meter covered street, welcoming visitors with a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. Guests can write wishes on tanzaku strips and tie them to bamboo, while food stalls and festival booths invite a leisurely stroll beneath the decorations with cotton candy and grilled corn in hand. Close to Morioka Station, it has long been a beloved summer tradition.
