Katsuo-nobori River Crossing

Saga, Kuroshio Town, Hata, Kochi

Venue: Iyoki River at Sakaori Riverside Park

Apr 25 – May 10, 2026 (est.)

Kuroshio Town in Kochi Prefecture is nationally famous for its bonito pole-and-line fishing. In a unique local twist on Children's Day traditions, the town replaces traditional koinobori with 'katsuo-nobori' — bonito-shaped streamers up to 5 meters long — that swim across the Iyoki River. Started in 2001, this one-of-a-kind event features about 60 bonito and carp streamers strung across the river, creating a spectacle that perfectly embodies the fishing town's identity and can only be seen here in all of Japan.
Japan's only 'bonito streamers' (up to 5m)
