Growers from across Kanagawa compete, with weekend guided tours on how the plants are trained
The Kanagawa Prefectural Ofuna Botanical Garden spreads west of Ofuna Station and is known for peony and rose varieties bred on site. Every November it hosts the Kanagawa Prefectural Chrysanthemum Show, one of the largest in the prefecture, where amateur growers bring the plants they have tended all year to compete for the finest blooms. The 2026 show is the 63rd and runs from 1 to 23 November with the cooperation of the Kanagawa Chrysanthemum Federation, filling the garden with large-flowered specimens, cascades, bonsai forms and more. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays during the show, guided chrysanthemum tours at 10:30 and 13:30 explain how to appreciate the blooms and how they are trained (on 8 November only the 13:30 tour runs because of the director's garden walk). A chrysanthemum corner offers growing advice and sells young plants and calendars, so it also suits anyone hoping to grow their own. Note that the garden is closed on Monday 9 November during the show; it is open on the 23 November public holiday.
