Chrysanthemum Exhibition at Sankeien Garden

Sankeien is a Japanese landscape garden in Yokohama created by businessman Hara Sankei from the Meiji into the Taisho period. Historic buildings relocated from Kyoto, Kamakura and elsewhere stand among scenery that changes through the seasons. The 2026 chrysanthemum exhibition runs in the Central Plaza from 31 October to 23 November, presenting around 240 displays with the cooperation of the Yokohama Chrysanthemum Society and the Choseikai small-bonsai association. Alongside large-flowered plants and miniature bonsai forms are rare classical chrysanthemums developed and handed down in different regions since the Edo period, offering shapes and petal forms quite unlike standardized modern show blooms. Exhibition hours are 9:00 to 16:00. Viewing the flowers carries no separate charge, although normal garden admission is required. Allow time to explore, as the grounds include slopes and gravel paths.
