71st Chrysanthemum Show at Kawaguchi Green Center

Kawaguchi has been a centre of the nursery and cut-flower trade since the Edo period, and its municipal Green Center is a 15-hectare botanical garden with glasshouses, flower beds and a public hall. The chrysanthemum show held here each autumn reaches its 71st edition in 2026, presenting large-flowered specimens, cascades and bonsai forms grown by enthusiasts from the city and surrounding area. The 2026 show runs from 28 October to 23 November, with a judging day on 7 November, after which visitors can compare the prize-winning entries. Maples and ginkgo trees in the garden turn colour over the same weeks, so the flowers can be enjoyed alongside the autumn foliage. The garden is open 9:00 to 17:00 with last entry at 16:00 and closes on Tuesdays; when a Tuesday is a public holiday it stays open and closes the next weekday instead, so it is open on Tuesday 3 November. Admission is ¥310 for adults and ¥100 for high school students and children aged four to junior high, with free entry for city residents aged 68 and over. The east gate is about a 10-minute walk from Araijuku Station on the Saitama Rapid Railway, an easy trip from central Tokyo.
