Hashima Mino Chrysanthemum Show

The Mino chrysanthemum bears large blooms built from many layers of rounded petals and has been cultivated in the Mino region since the Edo period, a variety found only in the Tokai area. Hashima has adopted it as the city flower, and the Hashima Mino Chrysanthemum Show, where growers bring the plants they have tended all year, is held each autumn to present new flowers and to enjoy them together. Entries are divided into an individual section of three varieties in three pots and a group section of ten to thirty pots. In fiscal 2026 the show runs for three days from 6 to 8 November in Exhibition Room 101 of the Fuji Hashima Culture Center, open 10:00 to 16:30. Because it is held indoors it can be viewed at leisure whatever the weather, and unusually for a chrysanthemum show it focuses on a single variety, inviting close comparison of colour and form. The venue is about a 12-minute walk from Hashima-Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Meitetsu Takehana Line and about five minutes by taxi from Gifu-Hashima Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen, making it easy to reach from further afield. The show is organised by the city, and there is no fee to exhibit; check the city's page for viewing arrangements.
