79th Nagoya Castle Chrysanthemum Show

Nagoya Castle was built on the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu as the seat of the Owari Tokugawa family and is famous for the golden shachihoko on its keep and the reconstructed Honmaru Palace. The Nagoya Castle Chrysanthemum Show, held every autumn, reaches its 79th edition in 2026 and forms a centrepiece of the Nagoya Castle Autumn Festival 2026, which runs from 19 September to 23 November. The show itself occupies the Nishinomaru enclosure from 27 October to 19 November. The display begins just inside the main gate, where large-flowered specimens, cascades and bonsai forms raised by enthusiasts line the grounds in what the castle describes as one of the largest chrysanthemum shows in the region. The view of the keep and the palace roofs rising beyond the flowers is unique to Nagoya, and many visitors come to photograph it. The castle is open 9:00 to 16:30 with the gates closing at 17:00, and there are no evening extensions during the show. Regular castle admission applies: from 1 October 2026 it is ¥1,000 for adults and free for junior high students and younger. The castle is a five-minute walk from Exit 7 of Nagoya-jo Station on the Meijo subway line, so it is easy to combine the flowers with a tour of the Honmaru Palace and the other autumn festival events for a full day inside the grounds.
