36th Himi Chrysanthemum Exhibition

The Himi Seaside Botanical Garden stands beside the pine groves of Matsudae Beach on Toyama Bay, displaying coastal plants and tropical species in its greenhouses, with an indoor play area that makes it popular with families. Its annual chrysanthemum exhibition reaches its 36th edition in 2026. Members of the Himi chrysanthemum society show the large and small blooms they have tended through the year, and alongside them stand plants raised by local elementary school pupils at school, so the skill of the growers and the efforts of the children can be compared in one room. The venue is the garden's nursery greenhouse, and the 2026 exhibition runs from 2 to 5 November, open 9:00 to 16:30 with last entry at 16:00. Wednesday 4 November is the garden's regular closed day, but the exhibition can still be viewed. Viewing the exhibition alone requires no admission; to see the rest of the garden, admission is ¥500 for adults and ¥300 for children aged four to junior high. The garden is about a 17-minute walk from Shimao Station on the JR Himi Line or five minutes by taxi from Himi Station, with free parking for 170 cars. Just before the season of Himi's famous winter yellowtail, it offers a quiet seaside autumn with the flowers.
