Secret hina dolls in Nishijin townhouses
The Senryogatsuji Hina Matsuri is a hinamatsuri event held in the historic machiya townhouses of Kyoto's Nishijin district. The area known as 'Senryogatsuji' (Thousand Ryo Corner), named for the volume of trade once conducted here, opens its machiya doors to reveal treasured hina dolls passed down through generations. Silk merchant storehouses are used as atmospheric exhibition spaces. The Nishijin Textile Center also hosts a 'Junihitoe Dress-up' event. Visitors can experience an elegant Kyoto-style hinamatsuri while soaking in the history and culture of Nishijin, the weaving quarter.
