Kyoto, KyotoKansai
Free admission with 1,001 Kannon special viewing
The Sanjusangendo Shuntoe is a special Buddhist service held on March 3rd (Peach Festival), playing on the 'thirty-three' in the temple's name echoing the date 3/3. The temple, which normally charges admission, opens for free on this day only, allowing visitors to view the 1,001 National Treasure Senju Kannon statues from a special elevated platform. Events include a Ikenobo flower offering ceremony and acrobatic performances. A 'Peach Day Market' with food trucks fills the grounds. Limited-edition peach charms, peach-themed omikuji, and special Shuntoe temple seals are also popular.
