Saikyoji Temple (Head Temple of Tendai Shinsei Sect)
Otsu, ShigaKansai
3,000 hina dolls gathered at a temple
A spectacular hina doll exhibition held at Saikyoji Temple, the head temple of the Tendai Shinsei sect in Sakamoto, Otsu, Shiga. This nationally rare exhibition originated from a doll memorial service that began after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and all dolls on display were brought to the temple for memorial rites. Approximately 500 precious dolls spanning from the Edo period to modern times are exhibited, with special events featuring gatherings of up to 3,000 dolls. During the exhibition period, visitors can also enjoy special 'hina gozen' meals and hina doll lectures.
