Fukuoka Tower Tanabata Festival

A Star Festival event at the 234-meter Fukuoka Tower, the city's landmark. During the festival the tower's exterior is lit to evoke the Milky Way, with a roughly 150-meter sweep of light coloring the night sky. Visitors can write wishes on strips and hang them on bamboo at the observation deck and on the ground. The plaza on the tower's south side bustles with food stalls, festival games, and monkey performances. Set on the Seaside Momochi waterfront, it lets visitors enjoy the interplay of decorations and illumination with the sea breeze—a summer staple of Fukuoka.
