The spirited Funai Pacchin warrior-float parade
One of Oita's signature summer festivals, held in early August in the heart of Oita City. Dazzling Tanabata decorations adorn Chuo-dori and the surrounding '480,000 People's Plaza,' while the highlight is the spirited 'Funai Pacchin' floats. Large floats painted with warrior images parade to festival music in a powerful spectacle, with 13 floats planned for 2026. The first day features an opening ceremony and the Funai Pacchin, while the second day offers a Tanabata decoration contest award ceremony, a parade, and a Funai Pacchin plaza. Drawing some 390,000 visitors over two days, it is a major summer event eagerly awaited by Oita residents.
