Takamori Spring Water Tunnel Tanabata Festival

A 'cool-evening' Tanabata festival at Takamori Spring Water Tunnel Park at the foot of the Aso caldera. Inside the roughly 550-meter publicly opened tunnel, large Tanabata decorations about 5 meters tall line up in rows, creating a fantastical scene in the chilly air. The decorations are mirrored on the surface of the spring water flowing down the center of the passage, heightening the magical atmosphere. During the event, food trucks set up and family-friendly activities such as catching yamame trout by hand are held. Cool even in summer, the tunnel lets visitors forget the heat while enjoying the decorations—an Aso summer tradition.
