The Fukushima Tanabata Festival is one of Tohoku's representative Tanabata events, held August 6–8 along the Paseo-dori and Bunka-dori shopping streets in central Fukushima. More than a hundred vivid bamboo decorations and streamers handmade by the city's schools, businesses, and shops fill the streets, welcoming visitors with a festive air. Stage events at the town plaza, food trucks, and rows of stalls and festival booths draw crowds of residents and tourists enjoying the cool of the evening. Just a ten-minute walk from Fukushima Station, it has long been cherished as a summer tradition.
