Masumida Shrine & Honmachi Shopping Arcade
Ichinomiya, AichiChubu
Gorgeous streamer contest, Tanabata dance, and citizen parade
Held in late July in Ichinomiya, Aichi, this is one of the Tokai region's largest Tanabata festivals alongside Anjo. As a city that flourished as a textile (wool) production center, Ichinomiya holds the festival in gratitude to Masumida Shrine, which enshrines the guardian deity of weaving, hence the name Orimono Thanksgiving. The 71st edition in 2026 runs from July 23 to 26 across four days, centered on Masumida Shrine and the Honmachi shopping arcade, where elaborate streamers fill the streets. Tanabata dances, folk-dance processions, the Miss Tanabata parade, cosplay events, and numerous stalls draw over a million visitors across the four days.
