Basara dancing and citizen group dances amid the decorations
Held in Mizunami City, Gifu, this citizen-participation Tanabata festival represents Mizunami's summer. Named after the birthplace of the Mino-Genji Toki clan, known for its Warring States era warriors, the 67th edition runs two days on August 8 and 9, 2026, around Mizunami Station. Amid colorful Tanabata decorations, the highlight is the bold and vibrant Basara dance performed by dancers from across the country, whose powerful movements and clapper sounds fill the town with energy. Citizen group dances, various stage events, and numerous stalls also feature, uniting the whole community from children to adults. Carrying on local history and pride, it is cherished as a major event passionately coloring Mizunami's summer.
