Grounds adorned with over 1,000 colorful chimes and wish strips
Held at Hakusan Shrine in Ichibanbori-doricho, Chuo Ward, Niigata City, long revered as the guardian shrine of Niigata, this Tanabata wind chime festival runs from June 10 to July 20, 2026. More than 1,000 colorful chimes hang throughout the grounds, ringing with cool, beautiful tones whenever the wind blows, alongside wish strips bearing visitors' hopes. Brightening the grounds from the rainy season into summer, the festival lets worshippers feel the arrival of summer as they pass beneath the chimes. Many visit along with summer-visit prayers, and it has become a popular photo spot. Located in central Niigata City with good access, it is a beloved summer tradition.
