Sumadera-mae Shopping Street Tanabata Festival

Sumadera-cho, Suma Ward, Kobe, Hyogo

Venue: Sumadera-mae Shopping Street

Jul 4 – Jul 5, 2026

This neighborhood Tanabata festival takes place on the Sumadera-mae Shopping Street, which leads to the ancient Sumadera Temple of Genpei-war fame in Kobe's Suma Ward. A large bamboo is set up where visitors tie wish cards. From the evening, stalls run by shop-street volunteers offer old-fashioned festival games such as goldfish scooping, superball scooping, and yo-yo fishing, drawing yukata-clad children and families. With its retro temple-town charm and handmade feel, it is a long-cherished local summer tradition that pairs well with a visit to Sumadera.
