Don't miss the Water Parade
Yanagawa's famous 'sagemon' hanging decorations transform the water town into a vibrant celebration of Hinamatsuri — one of Kyushu's premier hina festivals. Sagemon are Yanagawa's unique hanging ornaments, crafted to wish for girls' happiness and healthy growth. The highlight is the 'Ohina-sama Water Parade' on March 15, where children in kimono ride on traditional river boats through the canals — a spectacular sight. Other events throughout the festival include an opening parade on February 11, a kimono day, and a floating doll ceremony.
