Tsuma Shrine Tanabata Koromogae Festival

Tsuma, Saito, Miyazaki

Venue: Tsuma Shrine

Jul 6–7, 2026

A traditional rite, the 'Tanabata Koromogae,' held each year around Tanabata at Tsuma Shrine in central Saito, Miyazaki. In keeping with the weaver-maiden theme, the rite of changing the deity's vestments to summer robes has been handed down since ancient times, drawing the faith of those praying for skill in weaving, sewing, and the arts. Bamboo and wish-strip decorations are set up in the grounds for visitors to write and offer their wishes. Watched over by the great camphor tree known as the 'Tsuma no Kusu,' this solemn Tanabata rite at the historic shrine—known as the second shrine of Hyuga Province—is a local summer tradition.
