About 500 bamboo decorations and first-night fireworks
The Miki Town Ikenobe Tanabata Festival, held since 1952 on a Saturday and Sunday in early August (August 8-9 for the 75th edition in 2026), is one of Kagawa's signature Tanabata events. About 500 bamboo poles line the Ikenobe shopping street, gaily decorated with colorful tanzaku and kusudama balls. Many stalls open alongside stage events such as the Tanabata Queen announcement, song shows, and taiko competitions, and fireworks light the first night. Nearby Saitoku-ji temple holds its famous 'Tanabata tea ceremony' on the same dates. Walk through tunnels of bamboo decorations and enjoy the festive bustle of this major event coloring Kagawa's summer.
