Dramatic collaboration between Japan's unique double-arch dam and koinobori
During Golden Week, koinobori are displayed at Okura Dam in Sendai's Aoba Ward. Okura Dam is Japan's only double-arch concrete dam, designated as a Civil Engineering Heritage by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers in 2023. When water is discharged, koinobori dance above the spray, creating a powerful spectacle. Original koinobori drawn by local students are also displayed, celebrating children's healthy growth.
