Tsuwano Koinobori and Tonomachi Canal

Tsuwano, Shimane

Venue: Tonomachi Street, Tsuwano

Early Apr – May 5, 2026 (est.)

Tsuwano in Shimane is a historic castle town known as the Little Kyoto of the San'in region. Its Tonomachi Street canals are famous nationwide for the colorful nishikigoi carp swimming in them. In spring, koinobori streamers are displayed along Tonomachi Street and the Tsuwano River, creating an atmospheric scene alongside the white-walled samurai residences and red-tiled townhouses. The combination of live carp in the canals and koinobori in the sky is unique to Tsuwano and perfect for enjoying the Tango no Sekku mood while strolling the castle town. The area is within walking distance of Tsuwano Station. Dates are based on last year's schedule.
