Omachi and central Ichinoseki, along the Iwai River
Ichinoseki, IwateTohoku
Tanabata decorations and the Iwai River opening fireworks
The Ichinoseki Summer Festival takes place over a Friday–Sunday in early August in the city center around Omachi. Colorful Tanabata decorations adorn the shopping streets while a citizen dance parade of around 100 groups and thousands of dancers fills the town with energy. On the final day, the Iwai River opening fireworks display sends great blooms of light across the night sky. With many food stalls and a wide range of visitors, it is a tradition organized by groups including the Ichinoseki Chamber of Commerce.
