The Kamisu Tanabata Festival is a community summer event held along Suzuran-dori and Konan-dori in the Shittenaka district of Kamisu, Ibaraki. Typically held on a weekend in early August, from around 16:30 to 21:00, the shopping streets are hung with colorful streamers that brighten the summer night. Numerous food stalls line the streets and stage performances of dance and music entertain visitors of all ages. It is a beloved local tradition that enlivens the central shopping district of Kamisu, a city anchored by the Kashima coastal industrial zone. (Note: dates are based on the previous year.)
