Decorations and parades along a 1.2km street
The Shitamachi Tanabata Festival takes place along Kappabashi Hondori, a street stretching about 1.2km from western Rokku in Asakusa toward Ueno, and is a downtown festival representing Taito Ward. In 2026 decorations line the street from July 3-7, with the main events on July 4-5 (10:00-19:00) when the street becomes a pedestrian zone. Local shops set up stalls, and parades, nagashi-odori dancing and street performances enliven the area. Bamboo for writing wishes is also set up, creating a warm, old-fashioned festival enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
