Asahi City Tanabata Citizens' Festival

The Asahi City Tanabata Citizens' Festival is a major summer event centered on the central shopping street near the Asahi Chamber of Commerce in Asahi, Chiba, drawing over 100,000 visitors each year. The 72nd edition is held on August 6-7, 2026, when about 150 colorful, vibrant decorations adorn the shopping street, turning the whole town into a sea of Tanabata. Parades, dance and stage events, along with numerous food stalls, fill the venue. As a community-driven festival created by residents, it is a signature summer tradition of Asahi enjoyed across generations.
